lights, camera, action!!!
I get to do a rewarding mix of DE&I (diversity, equity & inclusion) work at Creative Grace.
The projects are often a chance to collaborate with brilliant people who are committed to challenging established biases and behaviours so that all doors are open to people from underrepresented groups, and that the spaces beyond those doors are safe, welcoming and designed to set EVERYONE up for success.
Late last year I got to co-produce a film project led by award-winning content agency Sunday. Their brief was to make a series of films to launch ‘Welcome Inclusion’, a progressive new DE&I initiative for ICAEW the national body of chartered accountants.
🎬 We filmed under covid restrictions, with BAFTA-nominated documentary director Mikey Trotter at the helm, co-ordinating the crew across different locations to capture a live one-day inclusion workshop as well as the back stories and reactions of the 30 chartered accountants that attended.
🎤 The project was a chance to use old skills in new ways (I got to interview to camera using a mirror box).
📺 The first film is NOW LIVE. Watch it in full on icaew.com
🙏🏾 My gratitude goes to the team at Sunday for their ambition for this project – and trusting me to do more than my job description!!!
🙏🏾 to Mikey Trotter for his vision, passion and unswerving belief in the importance of centring this subject around people's stories
🙏🏾 to Steps Drama Learning Development Even with my experience of ED&I workshops, the drama-based session they led sparked a level of engagement and reflection built around being able to see yourself in the situations being worked through that really did change hearts and minds
🙏🏾 And to the amazing and generous accountants who were happy to do pre-shoot phone / Zoom / Teams interviews with me and my partner-in-casting Anna Scott. And to travel in for the workshop and take time out of the day to sit with me and share their stories on camera.
🙏🏾 Most of all, thanks to Andy Greenhouse, the eternally curious, inspiring and talented Creative director and founder of Swhype for Video, who headed up production and film editing.
It was Andy who invited me onto this project. Giving me a chance to grow… to swap virtual work for IRL collaboration… to have the privilege of hearing people’s precious stories… and to be part of a truly life-affirming project ✨✨✨
