a Black hair Story

Don’t touch our hair! The new wave of Black founders challenging the identity politics and discrimination around Black hair and the million-pound industry built around its care

I've just written my first piece for the Independent.

It's a Black Hair Story. Which is a story about beauty, pride, strength and joy. Which might seem contrary to common narratives but Black women are challenging the narrow ideals of beauty that have stood for way too long. Jamelia Donaldson, the founder of TreasureTress is leading the change. Creating a new model for beauty and haircare where all women see themselves represented and their uniqueness is respected. Interviewing Jamelia for this piece was next-level inspirational. I'm all in for this beauty revolution!

So do read the piece (it's a premium read so if you're not a subscriber, you'll be asked to register for free to read it – I'm worth it!!!)

And please share it!

And remember, tomorrow (Saturday 7 Oct) is Black Pound Day. I'm gonna be signing up for my TreasureTress box! If ever there was a day to support a Black-owed business, it's this Saturday hashtag#BlackHistoryMonth hashtag#BlackPoundDay hashtag#inclusionmatters

* thank you Victoria Harper 🙏 for this beautiful commission

& Solange for the soundtrack of my thoughts
